UPMD revisited

An important rendezvous which we'd organised was to go back to the hospital where the boys were born (UPMD - Institute for the Care of Mother and Child).

The building, built in the 1920s, used to be a sanitorium for expectant mothers, possessing all the features of a grand hotel.

This is the third floor waiting room.

It was here that we would come and wait until we were allowed to see Alastair, in his incubator in the ward on the floor below.

Our dream back in 2004 was to come back to this calming and spacious room, lit by a glass cupola, bringing both boys with us and having overcome their prematurity.

This was the main man who made that happen - Dr. Melichar. A star.

And these two, Dr. Stranák (neurologist) and paní Wintrová (physiotherapist) helped us enormously once we'd finally got Alastair home.

Everyone agreed that Alastair had made tremendous progress in overcoming the insult of his first year.
